Favor is hidden away around the back of the building on Auezov, so don’t give up when you get to the address and can’t see it. Enter into a two-storey-high entrance hall-cum-bar where one wall is impressively covered by wine bottles. Upstairs is the low slung modern restaurant, which looks out over the double height bar, with pine cone light shades and muted gray walls hung with antique fabrics taken from the interior of a yurt. As in Favor’s sister restaurant in Almaty there is an open kitchen where diners can watch their steak being cooked to griddled perfection. The menu offers the usual delicious range of Asian and European dishes, from dumplings and stir-fries to steaks and pasta. And if you don’t have time for a full-on lunch or dinner – a take-away joint next door will bag it for you.
