Hg2 : The Hedonist

Kabuto is an intriguing place. Located in what seems to be a bit of a black hole – although not that far from the city centre – the sophisticated interior and warm welcome from the amiable staff comes as something of a surprise. The Japanese owner speaks neither Russian nor English but that doesn’t preclude effusive gesticulating and a charming demeanour. The authentically Japanese menu offers plenty of sushi, (all with the requisite photographs to supposedly make your choice easier), charming old favourites – such as teriyaki chicken and yaki udon noodles – and some truly original Japenese dishes that haven’t been altered to our westernised palates. The business lunches are particularly good value (and numerous in choice) or go on a Saturday when there’s 30 per cent off everything. If you’re going for a more private affair, book the VIP tatami room. Lastly, and we can’t not mention it, Kabuto also serves beautiful Belgian waffles.
