Pomodoro is something of an Almaty institution: a tiny, charming restaurant run with panache by Italian Chef-Patron Giorgio Palazzi. What the restaurant lacks in seat numbers it makes up for in menu size, with a vast selection of delicious, authentic dishes on offer -there are at least 40 different pastas for a start – and an extensive mostly Italian wine list. The pizzas are wonderful but we need to make a special mention of the excellent home-made focaccia. Pomodoro’s popularity has meant that it has needed to expand to cope with demand; first with Mela Verde next door and more recently with a much larger and swankier new Pomodoro in the Life Town shopping mall behind Ramstor. For us the original is still the best though – and though all three menus are identical the food here is the best, and the rather rustic set up only adds to its charm.
