Azat Akimbek Gallery
Enter the Saryarka business centre and head right until you reach the sign bearing Azat Akimbek’s name. Behind the doors of two facing units is a jaw-dropping assemblage of art and antiques including Central Asian and Oriental carpets, embroideries, textiles, jewellery, pottery and porcelain. The art component features work from notable Central Asian artists and there are also exquisite Russian Orthodox religious icons. The former Soviet Union is well represented with art from the Soviet Realist period as well as an impressive collection of artefacts. Azat’s collection is truly incredible and, unsurprisingly, prices are not cheap as a result.
