Eagle Hunting

Surely the purest form of hunting there is, nothing matches a weekend in the countryside with an eagle on your arm. Falconry is an ancient tradition in this formerly nomadic country, with some historians dating it back to the Scythians. Its origins may be wreathed in the mists of time but there is no doubt that the Kazakh nomads that populated these lands from the 15th-century onwards had a unique tradition of hunting with golden eagles. The hunting season begins in November and is over by the middle of February. Usually pursued on horseback, the prey includes foxes, hares, rabbits and small mountain antelopes. Silk Road Adventures and Asia Discovery should be able to organise a trip, but be aware that it doesn’t come cheap.
