Cafe Weber has established itself as a late night drinking institution, particularly for those keen to push on while avoiding the naffer spots round the corner on Leidseplein. Despite the option to open later, most bars in Amsterdam close around 1am in the week, and 3am at the weekend. The extra hour means Weber does well from late night trade. Those in need of a seat with their sauce should arrive early. Despite its size (three tight open plan floors), it gets busy, typically with a mix of media types, students and Dutch hipsters; an eclectic but enjoyable mix. The interior is stylishly done – lots of ambers, browns, floral prints and large artworks – and changes regularly. Just up the road, Lux is almost identical, and run by the same people (all part of Hotel Weber). See separate review.
