Too cool for capital letters, café smit & voogt has a lovely Sunday vibe to it, with long tables of battered wood piled with the day’s papers, and a long bar that’s welcoming enough to encourage a pre-lunch snifter. A pavement terrace of dinky tables and chairs lines the exterior wall, one part looking over the entrance to the tiny Wertheim Park, the other Plantage Middenlaan. This is a good spot to eat away a hangover – the BLT’s use thickly cut bacon, which is a rarity in these speck-happy parts – or to refuel before or after the stresses of strolling around nearby Artis Zoo or frolicking in slightly-further-away Oosterpark (the best park in the city). Service is friendly, and the website has the full lunch and dinner menus if you’re keen to have a look before heading this way.
