Cote Ouest
They know their mussels in this delectable little cafe in the shadows of Niuewe Kerk, and a shell’s throw from the hubbub of Dam Square. This is easily the best spot on the square for food, in terms of atmosphere, service and then food itself. The traditional moules et frites and mariniere sauce is delicious, and if the moules au beurre d’escargots (mussels prepared in a garlic butter similar to that served with snails) is on the specials board, it’s not to be missed. But the rest of the menu is good too, whether you go for omlettes or entrecote, it’s all simple food lovingly prepared in a manner that suggests this small kitchen, run by a husband and wife team, has a genuine focus on having their customers eat well. Excellent service rounds it all off perfectly.
