A similar, but smaller, set up to Melkweg, paradise is best known as a live music venue, but one that also hosts club nights and after-gig DJs (typically taking over around 11pm and running into the wee hours). It’s more of a warren of rooms than Melkweg, but the main room can still hold a couple of thousand, and tends to sell out in advance for big international names. Smaller rooms offer a chance for quirkier acts to play, and the regular London’s Calling night gives a dozen or more UK (typically guitar based) acts the chance to introduce themselves to an enthusiastic Dutch crowd. The building was formerly a church, but opened as a ‘Cosmic Relaxation Center’ in the late 60s and has had a philosophy or promoting new creative talent ever since.
