Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam
The Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam is located in the heart of the canal belt, occupying six canal palaces upon the Herengracht (Gentlemen’s canal). The 17th and 18th century buildings have been renovated to contain 93 rooms, and come well equipped with wifi, 42-inch flat-screens and beautiful views of the canal. A new contender in the luxury hotel market, the way in which Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam has combined an entire row of canal palaces gives it a very unique feel and seamlessly places the property within the surrounding historical context. Keeping to the theme of the original buildings, the rooms are elegantly decorated in a stylish, yet traditional manner, with the occasional lavish display in the hotel’s dining rooms. Despite its central location and all the outstanding local restaurants, you may well choose to eat in the hotel’s restaurant, especially when you find out that the restaurant in the Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam, Librije’s Zusje has two Michelin stars and is an interesting fusion of regional produce with international cooking, under the aegis of Sidney Schutte. Behind the hotel, looking out to its pocket-sized garden, is the Guerlain spa attached, an ideal sanctuary to hide away after a long weekend in Amsterdam.
