Blauw aan de Wal
Blauw aan de Wal is one of the few places in the Red Light District where you can find true love; love for food, love for wine and love for hospitality. In a little green courtyard sealed off from sex theatres, banana bars and prostitutes, this classy French-Mediterranean restaurant is a haven of serenity. It breathes the kind of romantic atmosphere rarely found in this part of town. The interior is simple, divided over two floors. The food is delicate and classic, no trendy tricks like edible bladders or seaweed foams here, but just delicious meats, well prepared fish and fresh, quality vegetables like asparagus with a butter sauce or tenderly cooked onions. Owner Bert Wolthuis is renowned for running his restaurant with an old fashioned kind of hospitality, explaining his food so vividly you might feel you’ve already eaten it.
