Le Ciel Bleu
The only Amsterdam restaurant to claim two Michelin stars sits at the top of the unlikely foodie mecca of the Okura Hotel. Dining here is an orgiastic culinary experience likely to put your taste buds into retirement (they’ll want to get out at the top of their game) and your credit card over its limit. But if hedonism is simply the pursuit of pleasure, indulge. The Twenty Third Bar next door is a good place to start, and serves some of the best cocktails in town. Then, allow yourself to be lead through by the knowledgeable but refreshingly un-pompous staff. Unless you really are a boffin of the highest order, allow them to match wines for you. There is a bias to seafood, but rabbit, venison and pigeon all get a bit part for those hankering for some dark meat. But it is the completeness of the experience here that makes it such a pleasure, from service to décor (comfy and modern, despite the slightly dated building itself) and the exquisite tastes they put on a plate. There is also a ‘dine around’ menu, which amounts to 12 dishes across Ciel Bleu and Okura’s other Michelin starred restaurant, Japanese fine dining spot Yamazoto (see separate write up). It’s ?200 per person, with wine.
