Segugio
Segugio is probably the best Italian restaurant in Amsterdam, and lives up to the high foodie standards set by other spots along Utrechtsestraat. Now, admittedly, this isn’t a city renowned for its Italian fare, and most of the competition is clustered around the tackier parts of the city, serving up Bolognese with ketchup as the main ingredient, but that should not distract from the fact that this is an excellent spot for high-end Italian chow. The tables offer more space than most restaurants in the city, and the decor is clean and modern – there’s an airiness to the layout that encourages lingering. But the food is the big deal. There’s a freshness to the flavours and a thoughtfulness behind dishes such as the roll of guinea fowl filled with chestnut, and Ravioli with pumpkin and Moena cheese. The portions are not big, but the flavours are, and there is an excellent selection of digestives.
