Dedicated to all things still and celluloid, Foam has some beautiful images for anyone with an interest in photography. Exhibitions tend to run for a couple of months, with three or four on at any one time, so there’s always plenty of variety when you drop by. The photographers the museum chooses tend to be of an exceptional standard, with no presiding theme beyond technical excellence and carefully chosen subjects. These could by anything from fine art to documentary to contemporary trickery. Even by the standards of what is typically quite a contemplative, chin-stroking medium, Foam seems to constantly find artists whose works allow you to get lost in the moments of their images. There is a small licensed café in this beautiful Keizersgracht building, and a library full of photography books that you can access on request. Fans of the museum can also subscribe to Foam magazine.
