Taking the escalator at the front entrance of the Keruen Shopping Centre takes one directly up to this divine lounge bar. Fresh from the team behind Barhat and Chocolate Room, Kyoto Bar is a stone’s throw from the designer shopping – and it’s not hard to see what crowd it’s aiming for. Enormous crystal chandeliers dazzle overhead while every table is adorned with a single orchid. There’s an excellent Japanese menu (hence the name) featuring Gunkan maki, nigiri, sashimi, miso soups and Japanese-style salads plus a western menu with salads and snacks including cream cheese and smoked salmon bagels and grilled cheese sandwiches. Follow with fresh berries, Belgian waffles or a kalyan tended to by a waiter sporting a nifty turban. Don’t miss the fabulous drinks from one of Astana’s most inventive cocktail lists, offering three pages of ‘luxury mixology’. Non-drinkers can choose from smoothies, virgin cocktails and a range of soothing herbal and fruit teas. Like its sister venues, Kyoto is flawlessly executed – and achingly cool.
