The Why Not Lounge Bar is a popular and relaxed place to go at the weekend, and part of a bigger complex with the Silk Road-themed Zhibek Zholy restaurant upstairs. Luckily they’ve abandoned the caravanserai theme in here, instead going for a sophisticated softly-lit lounge bar where you can do just that. The space is well laid-out from cosy corners for those seeking privacy to tables around the dance floor for those more inclined to get up and grind. Despite there being an in-house DJ, the dance floor does not dominate, and the live show – there was a saxophone player alongside the DJ when we went – is more mood-setting that overpowering. It fills up rather quickly so it’s worth coming early, and you can order most of what’s on the upstairs menu (though we felt eating shashlik sitting in white leather seats was a bit strange, or strangely apt, you choose).
