Run by the same people – and located just next door – Ak Tilek is an extension of Mr. Coffee. The interior has a similar chic classical decor, albeit less extravagant, with a large room set around a stage and a cosy conservatory running along the edge of the building. The European menu is filled with the usual range of staples, the ubiquitous sushi, and a selection of Kazakh dishes with an impressive choice of six different types of samsas (filled pastry parcels, essentially samosas). Coffee-drinkers are spoilt for choice, with over twenty types, including a range of alcoholic coffees. Why not try a Mrs. Coffee, nice and sweet, with honey and cream? The armchairs are arguably the grandest in Astana, so sit back in grandiose, French-style creamy gold thrones and indulge. You may even be able to spot dressed-up locals heading to a party in the restaurant’s enormous banquet hall next door.
