The Beijing Palace Soluxe Hotel is fiercely proud of its restaurant’s ability to revolve given its less than original name, but we’re happy to report that it’s got the goods to back it up. Although Astana is no Manhattan, it has to be said that the view of Astana’s most awe-inspiring architecture is jaw-dropping. Found 23 floors up, the décor is kept clean and simple to avoid distracting diners from the sweeping panorama that spreads out behind shiny glass windows. Standard hotel design cues afford the space a retro-chic vibe, but it’s more charming than cringe-worthy. The staff – like in the rest of the hotel – is particularly friendly, and come to the table armed with an oversized menu that’s in danger of blocking out the view altogether. A full rotation takes an hour, but there’s more than enough dishes to keep bums firmly on seats with standard Chinese staples aplenty as well as some more obscure and authentic regional dishes. And it’s all good stuff.
