Hg2 : The Hedonist

Marco Polo

When Café Vanilla closed its doors, many regulars went into mourning, but when Marco Polo threw open its doors on the same spot a few months later, most of them were more than happy to transfer their allegiance to this comfortable and welcoming alternative. A convenient location a block from busy Bul-Bul to the east and Nizami to the north, Marco Polo is set back from the street under a portico, with a great south-facing terrace for the regular clientele of families, couples and businessmen to take their al fresco coffees or partake in an excellent light bite of lunch. The elegant interior is hung with reproductions of engravings from Marco Polo’s voyages, which led him through Baku some 800 years ago. Ask nicely and the friendly waiters will even show you a copy of his illustrated travels, complete with a short chapter on Baku back then.
