Hg2 : The Hedonist

Mirvari Café

Far and away the best of the Boulevard cafés, the Mirvari Café (not to be confused with the Mirvari Bar in Drink) is instantly recognisable by its undulating wave of a concrete roof, lending it – though only from certain angles – an almost Sydney Opera House-like silhouette, albeit in a smaller and more concretey way. Ok, it’s really not much like the SOH, but it is undeniably dis-rntinctive. The raised floor catches every breath of breeze on those stultifyingly hot days, while the signature roof provides a very welcome shade. If the wind gets up, however, then you can always retreat to the lower level, where you stand a decent chance of some shelter, as you sup a beer or partake in something from their decent, if not outstanding, menu. Open late in summer months, it is also a popular postprandial spot for a digestif.
