A perfect balance of Western gentleman’s club and all the Eastern promise a man – or woman – could hope for. In design terms, Mesa’s first floor bar is exactly what you would look to find in a city that marks the crossroads between Europe and Asia. Chocolate leather scroll top chairs are nicely set off by curtains of perforated hanging brass. In turn, the swirling, golden motif of the curtains is echoed on the dark wood panels of the saloon and again on the outsized lampshades, lined in chocolate silk. The crowd is a suitably well-heeled mix of the super-wealthy and the super-slim, dressed to the nines in European labels and luredin by the impressive cocktails and sushi menu – complete with calorific values to help the super-wealthy stay super-slim – that is available from the upstairs restaurant.
