Just a few paces off the stretch of Nizami Street formerly known as Torgova – i.e. shopping central – the Azeri owned Austin Hotel has been quietly plying its trade for five years. Located above shops and a lawyer’s office, on the third and fourth floors of an original nineteenth century boom-town mansion, the hotel is an oasis of four-star calm, well-insulated against the noisy bustle below. The 31 rooms are decorated in various muted, tranquil colour schemes and the suites especially are very generously proportioned. All rooms have balconies over-looking Nizami Street. There is a small but
reasonably equipped fitness centre and a restaurant offering breakfast and a small room service menu only, but with all the restaurants of downtown on your doorstep, you’d hope not to have to take advantage of that.
