Perched on a quiet and secluded hilltop in the maze-like centre of the Old City, The Horizon Hotel has been quietly plying its trade since 2004. Although simple and decidedly on the shabby-chic side, what stands out here is a combination of space, service and an ever-so charming slight eccentricity. The 12 rooms are generously proportioned and decorated, as befits rooms named after some of the UK and Ireland’s best golf courses, in a vaguely olde worlde, British colonial style – think dark wood furniture, framed prints and so on. Pleasingly kookily, a couple of slightly battered, but remarkably comfy, old Marks and Spencer sofas have even found their way into the mix – don’t even ask how they found their way to the Caucasus! Service here is friendly and little touches like complimentary bathrobes lift the Horizon out of the alsorans and into the ranks of the worth-knowing.
