National Academic Theatre
The impressive colonnaded façade of the Milli Theatre, or National Academic Theatre, is the ancestral home of Azeri thesp-dom, an artistic discipline with a wealth of history and tradition behind it. Here you will find lengthy classics played out in Azeri or, occasionally, Turkish language but, in truth, little to interest all but the most ardent foreign theatre-goer. The National TheatrernMuseum, situated in the same building as the Carpet Museum (see page 142) is similarly for die-hard aficionados only, as much due to lack of familiarity with any of the major players in Azeri theatrical history as anything else.
