Hg2 : The Hedonist

A Hedonist’s guide to…

Baku

Baku Roasting Company
You wouldn't expect a café run by teachers to be much cop but the Baku Roasting Company exceeds all expectations with bloody brilliant coffee and a bustling atmosphere.
Marco Polo
Sunset Café
Opened by the same team behind perenially popular Scalini you'd expect the Sunset Café to be faily good; and it is with crowds flocking here every all day every day for American-style comfort classics.
Mirvari Café
Its roof may catch the eye but Mirvari Café is beterr known for its popularity as a place to snack and sup.
Hayat Çay Evi
The al fresco terrace is undoubtedly the biggest draw at Hayat Çay Evi but the beverages and snacks on offer aren't bad either. In fact they're actually very good.
Hazz Café
Located on the ground floor of the Landmark Building - which is teeming with people whatever the weather - it would be a dodgy café indeed that sat empty here. Thankfully Hazz Café is far from dodgy; in fact it's great with brliiant breakfa
Gümüs Maska
The food and drink may indeed by noteworthy at Gümüs Maska - situated on the top floor of the Young Spectators' Theatre - but it is it its awe-inspiring architeture that truly dazzles.
Fashion Café
Somewhere so obviously fashion-orientated as The Fashion Café is never going to attract true couture-clad fashionistas but it does attract a stylish enough crowd to pull off its name.
Duplex Café
With no soulless chains in sight the city is open to brilliant independent openings such as Duplex; and with a young crowd of hipsters there's nowhere cooler to sip your coffee.
Dalida Café
Shopping mall cafés don't usually make the grade when it comes to Hg2's much-loved guides but Dalida Café is different with one of the best terraces to have a cuppa on in Baku.
Chocolate Café
With five properties in its portfolio The Chocolate Café chain is picking up pace; the Husein Javid Ave branch is our personal favourite with a disco-style downstairs setting.
Café Mozart
Every city needs a 24-hour café - to refuel after and before hangovers - and Café Mozart is Baku's.
Café Balizza
Café Ballizza is all about fabulousness and fashion with lashings of style and a crowd of chic dressed-to-kill ladies-who-lunch.
Café Caramel
Café Caramel is perfect for pre- or post-dinners drinks - or, for the true hedonist, both. Dinner is but a distraction.
Café City
New openings often go unnoticed but Café City makes drinkers sit up and take notice with chic décor a mixed crowd and a lipsmackingly good range of snacks.
Aroma Café
Forget Starbucks; Aroma Café is where those who appreciate good coffee beans come for steaming cups of beautiful black stuff.
Azza Café
Cafés aren't usually given the design treatment but the Azza Café at the foot of the ISR Plaza building is an elegant exception; expect the kind of interiors you'd find in a glossy magazine and desserts to ruin any calorie-controlled diet.
Ali & Nino Café
Ali & Nino Café is named after a pair of famous star-crossed lovers in Azeri literature; the book theme carries throughout with a bookshop in the basement and a selection of light bites to snack on while you get stuck between musty pages.
Papillon
Be it by bus, raft, helicopter or airplane, Papillon tours offer all kinds of adventures.
Dondurma
Those with sweet teeth will lap up the goodies on offer at Dondurma Café with ice-cream crepes and coffee galore.
Vitamin Bar
Punishing yourself on the treadmill can drain you of essential vitamins and minerals which is where the Vitamin Bar at the Landmark Hotel steps in; attached to its Health Club it will have any gym bun feeling fabulous again.
The Gourmet Shop
No hotel is complete with a fabulous foodie shop and the Gourmet Shop is such an establishment at the Hyatt Regency.
Schaorma No. 1
Open-air terraces are hard to find in the centre of town but Schaorma No 1 is such an establishment; enjoy an authentic sundowner in the form of an ayran.
Pizza Holiday
However high-end your culinary tastes nothing beats a good pizza; and when a pepperoni-laden Italian staple backons there's nowhere better than Pizza Holiday to satisfy your cheesy cravings.
La Vita
Yummy mummies love La Vita for it's seen and be seen atsmophere with people-watching opportunities galore and a heavy menu brimming with piled-high plates of pasta.
