Although tourists often unknowingly wander into Ginger, it is the quintessential Barcelona bar, loved by locals and unknown by the masses. The atmosphere is fabulous, even when not that busy (which is very rare). Comprised of five sections and run by a British ex-pat called Jan, it serves up the true personality of this city. Nestled within the Gothic district, tiny doors lead into the most delightfully atmospheric bar that offers every cocktail known to man and a delicious array of tapas – apple tart with glazed fois gras and tuna tartare with wasabi are just a couple of the permanent favourites on offer. The real piece de resistance of the bar is the bespoke yellow leather chairs that adorn each area. The lighting is perfect and it’s a great place to meet people if you’re here alone. The fact that it is run by someone who knows this city as if it were home and loves it as home itself is reflected within Ginger and if you want somewhere to bunk down, get comfortable and enjoy the finest Kir Royal, this is by far the place to go.
