Navarra
Navarra sits at the base of Passieg de Gracia, just before Gaudi’s stunning Casa Battla apartments. It’s fast, it’s big and it’s been a favourite daytime spot for Barcelona residents since 1939. An original stained glass dome still adorns the central ceiling and authentic wrought iron railings circle each seating area; a dose of old Barcelona that’s perfect for lunch or a coffee break. It was very much a high society joint until tourism grew, but it has managed to retain its original air and loyal local following despite being located in the tourist heartland. A tapas bar welcomes you at the entrance for quick snacks or opt for the full menu offering everything from a one kilo steak to fresh seafood. The whir of the coffee machine is endless, the waitresses seem manic and it’s permanently packed so one has the sense of really being in the thick of it – it’s not a peaceful spot but its great fun and a welcome break from some of the newer chain” coffee shops popping up around it.”
