Decked out like some kind of Bond villain’s lair with everything – and we mean everything – made of shimmering, gleaming, beautiful ice, Icebarcelona attracts shades-on beachgoers in barely-there swimwear in search of respite from the searing temperatures outside. They certainly get that here, with all clients required to slip into provided fur coats and gloves before they step inside. And once inside, drinkers can only stay for a short while for fear of frozen bodies filling the floor and law suits cramming the post box. The drinks on offer – beer and spirits – are served against a backdrop of impressive ice sculptures. Entrance certainly doesn’t come cheap at €15 a pop, but in the midday heat such soothing sanctuary is both rare and priceless.
