d lounge is, in a word, glamorous. Opened by Punk alumnus Warren Pang, d lounge has enough pretention and prestige for Mayfair. Hidden in the back streets of south Sanlitun, it’s only visible to the initiated, and that’s the point. There is a strict dress code to keep the ruffians out and on the weekends the bouncers can give some serious attitude. The snobbery is worth it, however, for the excellent martinis and shochu as well as creative architecture. As far as the cocktails go, the Campari mojito and rum martini with orange are particular standouts. The high-ceilinged factory space has been cleverly designed to resemble the vaults and buttresses of a medieval cathedral with the altar-like bar as a focal point. You would be forgiven for thinking you had stumbled into the trendiest cave on the planet. Sit back with your Saketini and enjoy the scene.
