Hg2 : The Hedonist

Fubar Péking

Beijing’s first speak-easy is cleverly hidden inside the Stadium Dog (which, incidentally serves great hotdogs) at the East Gate of the Worker’s Stadium. Like the gold at the end of the rainbow, Fubar Péking is to be found by pushing a button on the wall at the back of the restaurant that reveals a secret door. Once inside the low-rent colonial chic décor, dim lighting and vintage jazz tunes are irresistible. Cascading lantern-like lighting fills the wall behind the bar while the remaining walls are a mix of red paint and exposed brick, which set off the black tables and chairs. Fubar Péking has several tongue-in-cheek cocktails including the Fu-Manchu, served in a mug emblazoned with the iconic Chinese villain and the Dizzy Buddha, presented in a ceramic idol with a straw in its bellybutton. It makes an ironic souvenir to take home with you.
