Owned by artist Huang Rui, who is considered the founder of the 798 Art District, the At Café is a fixture in bohemian circles. You may be buying the paintings from the friendly, immaculately dressed art student serving you your Illy coffee one-day soon. The exposed brick in the main room betrays its former life as part of a munitions factory but there is a surprisingly comfy banquet. On the second floor is a light and airy loft with sofas perfect for lounging and flipping through the latest art magazines or using the free Wifi. Besides the coffee, the menu is filled with hearty favorites such as pasta, pizza and sandwiches. Maintaining the Italian theme, the cakes are also excellent, especially the tiramisu. In the summer, grab a table outside for people watching – always a treat in Dashanzi.
