From a German-Chinese duo, the Café Zarah has quickly become a Gulou mainstay with its photography exhibitions and German baked goods. The owners chose the spot because of the neighborhood’s traditional feel and decorated their café simply with hardwood tables and lucky red-painted walls. Expect to see local denizens wired on coffee while surfing the wireless. Regulars are addicted to the gelato from Gustomenta, homemade apple pie and well-poured cocktails. The cappuccino is one of the best in town but if you need a little pick-me-up just ask for a shot of Bailey’s, rum or amaretto. The German-style breakfasts are a real departure from other offerings in the capital with freshly baked bread, cheese, egg, cold cuts, sliced tomato and cucumber as well as Nutella. If you got up on the wrong side of the bed then a glass of Prosecco will set your world aright.
