Block 8
Block 8 is the first nightclub and entertainment complex from local restaurant guru, Alan Wong. It opened its doors in 2007 and ushered in a renaissance of nightlife in the Chaoyang Park district. To enter the multi-story Block 8 you are whisked up from the street in a glass elevator to a Hall of Mirrors decorated with candles. Inside, is a popular Japanese restaurant called Haiku where you can start your night before shaking your groove thing on the sizeable dance floor. But the real draw is the summertime rooftop bar The Beach, where you can reserve your own cabana in the sand. One of the Olympic hotspots, it’s nearly impossible to get into The Beach when the blistering hot weather comes so make sure to book a table. Pitchers of vodka cranberry and screwdrivers are the drink of choice and if you’re feeling particularly swish request the private booth up another flight of stairs with great views of the city.
