Despite its huge dance floor, Lantern is the antithesis of the Chinese megaclub. The Beijing DJ collective Acupuncture has been hosting some of the hottest club nights around the capital for the past two years and now they have a home to call their own. Dedicated to electronic music and promoting Chinese DJs, Acupuncture offers up drum n’bass, retro dance, underground hip-hop and chill out lounge à la Café del Mar. They snapped up this large, subterranean venue on Sanlitun’s main drag and transformed it into a minimalist hip haven in no time flat. With reasonably priced cocktails that change every week, Beijing’s beatniks have already made this their new stomping ground. One of the capital’s best after-party spots, it’s easy to get seduced by the low lighting and the pulsating bass of the DJs usually doesn’t stop until well after dawn. Consider yourself warned.
