A new venture from the Swire Hotels group, East, like its counterpart in Hong Kong, is a decidedly corporate-facing venture. There are a lot of unexceptional business hotels in Beijing, but East located on the edge of the 798 Art Zone and within 15 minutes drive of the CBD (on a good day) is stylising the business experience. All set within a huge 17-acres of landscaped parkland the hotel’s 369 aesthetically streamlined rooms are filled with gadgets, free WiFi and most have wonderful views. Two restaurants Feast (Food by EAST, geddit!) with an international menu and Hagaki’s modern Japanese cooking appeal to most guests and are even attracting outsiders into the hotel to dine, while Xian is a bar, lounge and games room. A wonderfully named gym, Beast (Body by East), business lounges, art collection are all there to keep mental and physical acuity as sharp as ever. Redefining the business experience is the message the brand wishes to get across – and once, it works.
