The first boutique hotel venture from Hong Kong property developers Swire, The Opposite House brought in the star talent with celebrity architect Kengo Kuma who has reconceived traditional notions of space and functionality. As if you’ve arrived in Oz, the façade of the hotel is a brilliant emerald glass, which is reflected throughout the green color scheme of the ‘urban forest’ design. The 99 guestrooms and suites have a feeling of openness, being very bright and cream colored with natural brushed oak floors, furniture and even bathtubs. Guests can also enjoy a swim in the breathtaking stainless-steel-clad pool that has been designed to reflect both the natural and artificial light. Cocktails from the trendy bars Mesh and Punk downstairs can be sent directly to your room and the Bei restaurant serving northeastern Chinese cuisine has been drawing a regular local crowd for its pioneering dishes.
