District was built from scratch in 2004, allowing it to create exactly the space it required to create one of hippest cocktail bars in Beirut. A welcome addition to the designer bar scene, it’s big and dark, a massive concrete square of a place, with a long bar and numerous low-slung tables. An eclectic mix of loud music graces the top-end sound system, and the crowd of 30-somethings dressed to the nines love it.
The DJ, hidden behind a dark mirrored glass screen, occasionally pops his head out but generally leaves everyone to their own devices. The bar, serving delicious daiquiris and ritzy champagne cocktails, has been widened to allow the intoxicated female clientele to gyrate on it seductively later in the evening.
District is full of Beirut’s most affluent and hedonistically minded citizens – glamour is definitely the order of the day. Dress up, drink up and abandon all inhibitions.
