Grand Cafe
Grand Café is a smart oriental Lebanese café and restaurant done out in traditional Ottoman style and located across both sides of a cobbled pedestrian street. All the waiters are dressed in traditional Lebanese manner, in a throwback to the years when the Ottomans held sway over the country, sporting wide baggy trousers tucked into boots and a fez on their head. rn

Serving straightforward Lebanese food, sweets, coffee and tea, Grand Café is a place to grab a bite, drink a beer and either watch the shoppers go by, or simply gaze across the road at the stunning Sunni mosque, with its walls engraved with calligraphy. Always popular with visitors for its attentive staff and open vibe, it remains relatively cheap considering its location and its terrace.

During the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, when Muslims fast during daylight hours, the place packs out at night, and it’s often loud, too, with an Arabic band keeping the clientele entertained.
