Mayass has rightfully earned its reputation among restaurants in Beirut for excellent food at reasonable prices. This traditional Armenian-Lebanese eaterie serves fantastic mezze and Armenian specialities from Aleppo, in a cosy atmosphere more reminiscent of a Mediterranean island than an old Achrafieh house.
Try the fantastic Armenian specialities of manti (dumplings), beurak (filo cheese and parsley fingers), soujouk (sausages sautéed in tomato) and basterma (beef pastrami), and the best dish on the menu, the magical kafta (grilled lamb with spices) in a hot, fresh cherry sauce. Add to this good value for money, wonderful atmosphere, romantic live entertainment (an old Armenian who table-hops armed with a three-string guitar to serenade you with any song of your choice – from Shakira to Sinatra to Fairuz – in a beautiful falsetto), and you have the ingredients for a truly special evening. Booking a couple of days in advance is always necessary.
