Scallywags
This is one of the cosiest and most colourful little bistros in Beirut; the man behind it is the London-based Richard Defontaine who came to Beirut on holiday and loved it enough to open a place here – you’ll often find him getting up and doing a little live karaoke for his guests when he is in town. rn

Scallywags is small, with about four tables seating only 20 or so, and a homely kitchen in full view of the customers – so homely, in fact, that you can always join in if you feel so inclined. Fusion cuisine is the order of the day – Italian, French and English cooked in Far Eastern spices, all of which is tasty and comforting. There is a menu but half the time Defontaine just serves up whatever he feels like cooking on the day. Fun, friendly and hugely popular.
