The Beirut Cellar

A veteran French restaurant in Beirut with almost 30 years of active service, The Beirut Cellar is located in a quiet area of Achrafieh in between Monnot Street and Gemayzeh. Popular with an older, elegant crowd who look nostalgically back to the days of the civil war, it was one of the few functioning restaurants during that period.

Designed like a Swiss chalet, with wooden beams and white plaster walls, it has recently been taken over by an old Beiruti family and revamped with mirrors and modern designer lighting, a mix of high tables, bar stool chairs and low tables, all in red, and a covered outdoor terrace. The French-Italian menu offers a rather predictable array of salads, pastas and steaks, while the wine list includes decent local and French vintages. Being an old favourite, the Cellar gets packed – so remember to book ahead.
