Not just great for drinking in Berlin, with its distressed walls illuminated by candlelight and an imposing wooden bar Bellman is also a favourite with film location scouts. A working class bar since the 1920s, Bellman is home to an old-school Kreuzberg crowd. Dinner is served at the weathered wooden tables, a mixture of Italian and Russian dishes but later in the night it’s standing room only as the place quickly fills up. A shelf behind the bar is filled with tattered records and the evening’s playlist is at the whim of who’s serving at the bar but for the most part, nothing beyond 1979 gets a look in. Bellman shares strong connections with bar Würgeengel in terms of both staff and nostalgic atmosphere.
