St Oberholz
A great all rounder Berlin café there are many reasons to like St Oberholz, not least of which is free wireless internet access. Tucked away down Rosenthaler Straße in the heart of Mitte, join a young studenty crowd who collapse on the comfy sofas, browse on their laptops and refuel on hearty Italian farmhouse cuisine. Formerly a chain beer-restaurant and, in the post-reunification 1990s, East Berlin’s first Burger King, this building has had a happy reincarnation into a cosy café. Chalkboards list specials – usually pastas and soups – while the glass counter displays quivering quiches, sumptuous salads and colossal cakes. The mix of German alpine rustic décor, 1950s touches and abundance of comfortable corners make it the perfect place to pop into for a few hours of browsing on your laptop or a spot of lunch during a Mitte shopping trip.
