A non-descript office front leads to an elevator, which brings you to the top of a building in about 40 seconds – hence the name of this Berlin club. On exiting the lift, you are greeted with a breathtaking 360º view of the city, which alone is reason enough to come here. The minimally stylish interior and its proximity to Potsdamer Platz make this a hotspot for a young, professional crowd; a good place, in other words, to meet a more conventional crowd, something of a rarity in Berlin. The yuppie factor can be comforting for some, off-putting for others, but either way you’ll have a good time without feeling the need to shower when you leave. Polite and smart, 40 Seconds is the sort of place where you could equally bring your boss or that sexy work colleague. This is also the club’s major drawback, however, as it can feel a bit too much like an office party. Dress code: Cybill Shephard in Moonlighting, 1985 (not enforced).
