Bohannon
One of Berlin’s most consistent clubs is Bohannon, named after 1970s disco don Hamilton Bohannon. The club holds around 400 people and caters to a slightly older crowd, similar to prototype ‘Plastic People’ in London. Music-wise the club follows a full-spectrum ‘Soul’ orientated programme that ranges from organic to electronic styles. This is the place for those who dig rare groove, funk, hip-hop, reggae, disco and house and everything in between. With a regular line up of DJs that includes Jazzanova, Soulkomb-inat, True Beatz Collective and Resoul Funk Inc. the club also hosts live events. Previous guests include funk, hip-hop and soul luminaries like Sharon Jones, Gwen McCrae, Marva Whitney, Bahamadia and Keb Darge. Monday night is ‘Escobar’ night featuring plenty of reggae, ragga and dancehall, and in general you can expect a mixed, relaxed crowd, solid, ‘grown up’ music and a laidback party atmosphere that goes on until 7am. The perfect antidote to the unrelenting techno served up in many of Berlin’s clubs.
