Magnet
This Berlin club lying somewhere between pub back room and students’ union, Magnet attracts a similar crowd to Icon. But this is definitely one of the best places to catch up-and-coming rock acts. After gigs, DJs always spin in a second room where beaten-up sofas surround a simple wooden dance-floor. A mixture of shoe-gazing students, oversized indie kids and air-guitar extremists consider Magnet to be their local haunt. On Wednesdays a more subdued crowd calls by for a night of Scandinavian electronic music. Bottled Becks is the beer of choice, which revellers spill and swill well into the night. It is not exactly the place to debut a pair of Manolo Blahnik’s – practical clothing should be chosen accordingly. Swap the designer threads for thrift-shop finds, and there shouldn’t be a problem.
