Having acquired a disused waterworks, the owners of this restaurant-cum-bar-cum-event-location knew they had a unique place on their hands. Rather than gutting the goliath space of the majestic machinery that once pumped drinking water to thousands of Berlin homes, the owners decided to pay homage to the spectacular building’s industrial past.
Wasserwerk’s dining tables, accommodating over 350 people, are interspersed amongst enormous lovingly-restored – read polished and brightly painted – wheels, drums and piping. Intelligent lighting ensures these imposing marvels of 20th century engineering remain a point of fascination as opposed to a looming distraction.
The space acts as a corporate event location from Sunday to Thursday, so you’ll need to visit on a Friday or Saturday night. Diners can expect an international menu, with everything from Italian to Asian cuisine on offer. Those looking to party can join metropolitan Berliners grooving to the middle-of-the-road rhythms played by the in-house DJs.
