Bringing a taste of regional German restaurants to Berlin, Chez Gino offers a simple but tasty menu. A sister enterprise to the successful Kreuzberg bar San Remo, the restaurant attracts a similarly young and vibrant crowd. Dishes may lack the finesse of a fine dining restaurant, but few spots are as cool to hang out in. Reflecting the rustic flavours of the kitchen, the interior follows a woodland theme; dark wood chairs look fresh from the carpenter’s lathe and chunks of tree trunk have been fashioned into bookshelves. A final touch of the al fresco comes in the form of a forest mural filling the entire restaurant back wall. Elsewhere, original 1970s wallpaper from the local flea markets completes the kitsch touch. Great for large groups and not a teddy bears’ picnic in sight.
