Once a popular celebrity haunt, Florian remains a favourite Berlin restaurant with the ‘lovey’ theatre crowd and several of West Berlin’s notable characters. Perhaps relegated by some to last season’s side of the wardrobe, Florian still attracts an interesting clientele who create an electric atmosphere. The room itself is simple but elegant, with a 1940s styled cocktail bar; if Sam were on the ivories, Humphrey Bogart would most definitely ask him to ‘play it again’. The two female owners are from Franken, in the northern part of Bavaria, and base a menu on their local kitchen – heavy on roast meats and fish. Despite resting on its once great reputation, Florian is still an old school favourite. Turn up late to find a few showbiz regulars propping up the bar.
