Hg2 : The Hedonist

Jules Verne

It is hard to get more truly international and fusion dining in Berlin than Jules Verne. Restauranteurs Darnia and Hassan (originally from Beirut and Cairo, respectively) embarked on this venture with the intention of creating a restaurant as cosmopolitan as their ancestry. Their menu fuses flavours from all over the world; one dish, for example, blends tuna, chilli and wasabi with a black ink spaghetti and the eclectic ‘Around the World in 80 Days’ breakfast has proven popular. With very little capital behind them, the pair spent six months refurbishing the restaurant. Much of the decoration was given or borrowed; the giant papier-mâché poppies, which dominate the back room, are taken from a theatre backdrop. Building the restaurant as their perfect utopia, the hardworking team decided to name the place after their favourite author. A further twist of fate came when Darnia happened to find a Jules Verne toy in a Kinder egg. Crafted with love and run with pride, the appeal of this well-turned-out neighbourhood restaurant is difficult to resist.
